The #4 Mohawk Valley Men's Soccer team dropped to the #2 Herkimer Generals in a wet slippery battle. The Generals would get on the board first when Shemar Blair sent a cross into the box and Hawks defender mis-hit a clearance which deflected the ball into the back of the net. The Generals would get their second goal of the game when Gian-Luca Fahling played a cross in that skipped off a Hawk defender but Shemar Blair was there for the loose ball and finished home the opportunity. The Generals would get their third goal of the game just 15 minutes later when Jaahdel Cyril intercepted a pass in the Hawks defensive third and slipped Alex Charles in for the breakaway. The Hawks would get their first tally on a set piece when Erick Ramos put a service into the box, Herkimer goalkeeper Manabu Takahashi would get a hand on the ball but Romaine Watkis would put home the rebound on a bicycle kick to make the score 3-1 heading into halftime. Despite being down 2 goals, the Hawks held a 9-8 shot advantage while both teams put 6 shots on goal. The Generals held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The second half provided multiple chances for both teams. Hawks goalkeeper Stuart Boller left the game with an injury which brought Tucker Garrett onto the field in the 53rd minute. The Generals would find two goals in the 64th and 72nd minutes, both from Shemar Blair. Romaine Watkis would finish home the Hawks second goal off a pass from Zach Gleasman to close the game 5-2.
The Generals held a 19-18 shot advantage while the Hawks held a 12-11 advantage on net. Each team would finish the game with 6 corner kicks. Hawks goalkeepers Stuart Boller & Tucker Garrett would combine for 6 saves while Generals goalkeepers Manabu Takahashi and Stian Klausen combined for 10 saves.
The #4 Hawks return to action this Saturday as they head to Watertown to take on Jefferson Community College for a 3:00pm kickoff.
