The MVCC Hawks' baseball team split Sunday's Region 3 doubleheader against Fulton Montgomery Community College.
The Hawks (11-9 overall, 6-4 Region III) dropped the opener 3-2, despite a strong performance on the mound from Jeff Cooke. Cooke went the distance while allowing just two earned runs while striking out five and walking one in a complete game effort.
The downfall of the Hawks' offense was leaving eight runners stranded on base. Bryce Patterson had two hits while JT Ross and Bryan McGuire both doubled. Driving in RBIs for the Hawks were Brandon Thomas and Brandon Pelose.
MVCC fought back in the twilight game, winning 6-5. Bryce Patterson led off the bottom of the seventh with a lead off double. JT Ross' sacrifice bunt was thrown passed the third baseman allowing Patterson to score the winning run.
Bryan McGuire got the win in relief, while also collecting two hits at the plate. Jeff Ramos added two hits for the Hawks.
MVCC travels to Schenectady CC on Tuesday before hosting the Royals on Thursday next week.
