Hawks Ready for Annual Trip to Myrtle Beach

The Mohawk Valley CC Baseball Team will open up the 2015 season on Sunday night, March 15th at 6pm against Bergen Community College of New Jersey at the Cal Ripken Training Facility in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. The Hawks bring back the one-two punch of right hander Jeff Cooke of Rome, NY and lefty Jesse Whitmeyer of Verona. The two combined to pitch close to 70 innings last year in helping the Hawks to the Regional Tournament.

The MVCC offense returns several key players including Matt Thompson of Syracuse, NY. The captain of the Hawks squad hit for a .315 average last year with 7 doubles. John Ross of New Hartford, NY is coming off a great year in 2014 where he hit for a .333 average with 5 doubles and a .420 on base percentage. Stephen Scialdo (Herkimer, NY) was the leading DH for MVCC in 2014 with a .338 average. Scialdo will also be counted on in the pitching rotation as a reliever and possible starter. Steve Almond (Utica, NY) hit for a .364 average in 28 at bats last year for MVCC.

In addition to Whitmeyer and Cooke the early probable starting pitching rotation features Jared Muraca (Deerfield, NY), Tommy Steinberg (Syracuse, NY), Conor Casey (Peru, NY), and Adam Gleason (Schenectady, NY).

MVCC has a talented group of freshman players to compliment a solid group of returners. The Hawks are looking forward to a successful 2015 season. MVCC Baseball statistics throughout the season can be found here on our athletics website at
