The Mohawk Valley Community College men's basketball team earned a key road victory on February 18, defeating Hudson Valley Community College 79-70 at the McDonough Sports Complex.
The Hawks (15-7 overall, 8-3 conference) overcame a six-point halftime deficit after trailing 43-37 at the break. MVCC responded with a dominant second half, outscoring Hudson Valley 42-27 while shooting an impressive 56.3 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes. For the game, the Hawks connected on 52.4 percent of their shots and were a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line.
Jaeshaun Felder delivered a standout performance, pouring in 20 points on an efficient 9-of-11 shooting while adding three rebounds, three steals, and two blocks in 40 minutes of action. Darnell Childs added 19 points and five steals, helping spark MVCC's defensive intensity down the stretch.
Donald Grant Jr. contributed 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Sincere Smith chipped in 13 points and seven boards. Kevion Cummings added 11 points and eight rebounds as the Hawks controlled the glass, outrebounding Hudson Valley 39-31.
Hudson Valley (9-16, 3-8) was led by Kemontae Thawe's 26 points, including six three-pointers, but the Vikings cooled off in the second half, shooting just 37 percent from the floor after intermission.
MVCC will head up to Plattsburgh tonight as they take on Clinton Community College in their regular season finale tomorrow evening at 5:00PM.
