Hawks Take 3rd at Region III Championships; MVCC to Host National Championships May 7–9
Mohawk Valley Community College delivered a strong all-around performance at the Region III Championships, hosted at MVCC on May 2nd, finishing third overall behind a balanced mix of track speed and field event scoring. The result capped a solid showing for the Hawks as they now turn their attention to hosting the upcoming national stage.
On the track, Isaiah Reyes led the sprint group with a 6th-place finish in the 200 meters (24.01) along with additional scoring in the 100. Jayden Luton added key points in both the 200 (7th, 24.09) and 400 meters (5th, 54.71). Alex Keller and Jayden Taylor highlighted the middle-distance events, with Keller finishing 2nd in the 800 meters (2:07.69) and winning the 3000m steeplechase (11:00.32), while Taylor added a 2nd-place finish in the 1500 meters.
Hurdles and relay events also played a major role in the team's finish. Brendan Lee scored in both the 110 hurdles (4th) and 400 hurdles (5th), while the 4x100 relay squad of DeBose, Luton, Lee, and Reyes placed 3rd overall to add valuable points.
In the field events, MVCC continued to pile up scoring. Mason Beattie won the hammer throw (38.59m) and placed 2nd in the javelin, while Benjamin Nelson added points in the throws. Ayden DeBose and Dylan Jones contributed across jumps and vertical events, helping round out a deep and steady team effort.
With contributions across nearly every event group, the Hawks secured a third-place finish at the Region III Championships.
Mohawk Valley now shifts focus to an even bigger stage, as MVCC is set to host the NJCAA Division III National Championships May 7–9, bringing national competition back to Utica as the Hawks prepare to compete on home ground once again.
